What do you mean it was originally by Squatro?.. You say it is not a remix, cover or remake; however, you also say it's not originally by you.

That really doesn't make any sense. lol

I don't even know how much credit you are taking for this piece.

The melodies are not bad, but how would I know if they are yours. The track is not yours, but it is yours. I don't know anymore.

The sounds are pretty basic and the mix sounds sort of like your previous mixes. So work on your mixing, sound design and get some sample packs :P

It's better than Washing Machine. Keep it up.

Kysertron responds:

First (credit to Squatro): I meant to say it was an edit. It is a bit of a remix but it is not one. I did credit Squatro (only for the first 30 seconds or so).

Second (sampling and the genre): I tried to lean toward a no-sample, flat-sounding, 8-bit song (hence "Chipstep"). I did not feel the need or desire for sample packs as I wanted to keep it as this song is now.

This track is really quiet. Overall, it also sounds super empty. The intro percussion is kind of cool, but the riser is kind of alone otherwise. Then your bass lead is present with not much transition in between. I would recommend you look into some different styles of build ups that you can replicate. This isn't too strong of a build, and the overall mix needs improvement.

The kick you used for your drop is not really appropriate for this kind of track. Maybe get some stronger sample packs that you can play around with. The lead could be much better too. It sounds very low, and the melody feels flat, especially with this lead. There are also no chords or sub from what I hear.

I would rather say that this is a house attempt than techno, because of the house tempo and melody style.

Not too bad; keep practicing.

Squeegee4554 responds:

Thanks! I don't think Garageband really lets much into this type of music, but logic definitley does, and that will be here in early May. Maybe I'll redo the drop in a bit, though!

Either remove the phaser, or make the phaser frequency lower. It should sound a little more fitting.

Most of the time, you can make awesome sounds without it activated.

Did you make the kick in serum?

Frictional responds:

this whole loop was made in 1 single serum patch, including the kick. i thought the phaser should have stayed high because it's supposed to be one of those bumpy trashy ass drum loops you hear in clubs most of the times, but I'll take in consideration what you think.

The first melody is out of tune a little and some growls could be better.

Otherwise, pretty damn dope <3

DJ-Zyzyx responds:

Thanks chael!!

um.....

This is really weird. The melodies are very bad and repetitive. I think you used some slide notes, but it sounds weird the way you used them. Practice with slide notes. The bass line is terrible as well (mostly because of poor sound choice). There should be chords and a sub in a drop.

Look into proper technique for build ups. The drop is really bad and the sound design is really basic.

Why are you using crashes multiple times on the same bar?? lol they are just used in between every 4 bars or so in a drop and at other specific points.

The mix is quite bad too. Notice how at 1:53, the weird bass is louder than the other pluck (the only sound that was alright in this). You have to work on levelling instruments appropriately.

You should also have hats, shakers, rides and percs in your drops. It is boring to just have a kick and crash.

I don't know how long you have been making music for, but you just need more practice and exposure to the music of experienced producers.

Keep it up. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Mudstep responds:

It's my first track that isn't a remix. It was really just a released test. And I didn't use slide notes. And yeah, I could've worked more on the percussion. I'm practicing that. I've been making remixes for almost a year and I just started making original content.

Not gonna lie, the mix is pretty messy. But the track's creativity makes up for it quite a bit.

The idea works. I think you should see where this kind of style can go.

Definitely work on your mixing and apply stronger sidechain to your electro tracks. I think this might be your best track yet.

Keep it up!

Razorrekker responds:

Yeah, the kick and the acid bass kinda compete for the bass frequencies. Whoops.
I'm glad the idea works, that's really good to know.
Mixing and mastering are weak points for me, but the sidechain is easily fixable.
Thank you, and I'll definitely keep it up!

The mix is very messy, so really work on levelling everything appropriately. For example, hats are too loud and some FX is too loud. Because of things like that, it sounds very cluttered overall.

There is too much reverb as well. Watch out for that. I know reverb is very tempting because echoes sound cool, but for a good mix you need to minimize the amount of reverb you use to little or none.

The build up is kind of boring. Try to recreate different styles of buildups with pitch automations, EQ automations, etc (But similarly to the use of reverb, don't use too much).

This sounds like you are not to familiar with dubstep yet, but with time you can improve.

When you have more experience with mixing and sound design, try to recreate this. It might sound amazing if you try again at some point.

Good luck.

Xytonius responds:

Thanks. Good advice!

Best massage ever.

This is genuinely excellent.

Onefin responds:

i can see you like massages

Yeah I can see why this was scrapped.

I wish I could tell you what to do with it because it sounds cool. Maybe less wubby melodies and some kind of top lead melody would be good in that part (with a sub and maybe chords supporting it. I could see this track going full melodic or hard dubstep.

EnNinja responds:

Maybe, but i would most likely take a lot of work

There is something about the growls that makes them punch outwards more here. I like what you did with the chords too.

Definitely keep up the sick work. Not a huge fan of joke tracks but this was neat.

GobSmacked responds:

I added some spicy af Multiband compression to them which really made the growls a whole lot better. And a vocoder. Thanks, I appreciate your review!!! :3
